Washington, D.C. – Democrats are the party of the rich and not all of their members in the Senate know how to deal with it.

For months, Democrat Senators from high-tax blue states like New York, New Jersey and California have been fighting to eliminate the cap on State and Local Tax (SALT deductions), and the White House appears to be on board. This would be included in their “Build Back Broke” agenda that has already passed the House.

A full repeal of the SALT cap would result in a tax break of about $90 billion a year, which would primarily benefit millionaires and billionaires, especially those with multiple properties in blue states.

Perhaps no members of Congress have been more outspoken in opposition to such a repeal than Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York – the two leaders of the modern Democrat Party brain trust. Sanders went so far as to say that it “sends a terrible, terrible message when you have Republicans telling us that this is a tax break for the rich.”  AOC, who is still considering a primary against SALT cap repeal-supporter Chuck Schumer, once called raising the SALT cap a “giveaway to the rich…a gift to the billionaires.”

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “The Democrat Party being torn in half from arguing over how big of a tax break to give millionaires and billionaires was not something many people had on their 2021 bingo card. The supposed ‘party of the working-class’ is dead and buried. While Republicans fight to stop inflation and reckless new spending and taxes, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats are busy trying to help their donors save a few bucks on their house in the Hamptons.”
