WASHINGTON, D.C. — As we near one month since Chris Pappas, Jeanne Shaheen, and Maggie Hassan voted to shut down the government, funding for SNAP is scheduled to run out this week, jeopardizing assistance for an estimated 76,000 Granite Staters.
“As Chris Pappas and Chuck Schumer’s shutdown rages on, nearly 76,000 Granite Staters are now at risk of not receiving the assistance they need to buy groceries and feed their kids,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “New Hampshire deserves a Senator who will fight for families, not one who prioritizes free healthcare for illegal aliens over hungry children.”
Chris Pappas and Chuck Schumer’s Government Shutdown threatens vital assistance for families:
- On October 10, 2025, the Department of Agriculture sent a letter to state agencies advising state processors to “hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State EBT vendors until further notice.” The letter stated that there were only enough funds to keep the SNAP program going through October 2025.
- Chuck Schumer said, “Every day gets better for [Democrats],” reaffirming that this shutdown is political leverage in their fight to give illegal aliens free healthcare.
- Democrats have voted 12 times to keep the government closed and Granite Staters are the ones paying the price.
- In New Hampshire, there are around 76,000 total enrollees in SNAP, and an estimated 29,000 who are children.
- Democrats’ partisan proposal to reopen the government demands free healthcare for illegal aliens and gutting the historic $50 billion investment in rural healthcare delivered by President Trump’s Working Family Tax Cuts law.
- Chris Pappas voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
- In 2021, 2022, and 2023, when Joe Biden was President, Chris Pappas voted in favor of continuing resolutions to keep the government open and working for the American people.
