WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today is the ninth day of Chuck Schumer’s government shutdown and New Hampshire’s Democrat Senators just voted for a seventh time to keep the government shuttered. Senate Democrats are being pressured by House Democrats like Chris Pappas not to cave after he first voted to shut down the government.
“The government shutdown led by Chris Pappas, Jeanne Shaheen, and Maggie Hassan is delaying paychecks for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers tasked with upholding our national defense,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Pappas and Democrats are holding the government hostage because they want to give illegal aliens free healthcare.”
Today, Pappas’ biggest backer, Chuck Schumer, said, “Every day [of the shutdown] gets better for us.” After a coordinated, months-long campaign with radical activists, Democrats are holding firm on liberal demands including free healthcare for illegal aliens, $1.5 trillion in new wasteful spending, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.
The devastating impacts of Democrats taking the government hostage are piling up in New Hampshire:
- 9,000 federal workers are furloughed or forced to work without pay
- 12,000 Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program recipients will not receive nutritional support
- 1,300 Social Security checks are delayed
- The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard – tasked with maintaining our nuclear attack submarines – furloughed 280 employees and forcing the remaining 6,400 to work without pay
- White Mountains National Forest closed buildings and public services to visitors and hikers during the busy fall foliage season
- The New Hampshire National Guard furloughed about 325 federal civilian employees and 500 full-time soldiers and Airmen are working without pay
- Staffing shortages continue to stack up at airports across the country
- Small businesses nationwide are feeling the pain
- Farmers and ranchers are unable to access critical services
- Estimated costs of over $15 billion a week to the American economy
Chris Pappas supports Chuck Schumer’s ridiculous government shutdown:
- Chris Pappas voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
- In 2021, 2022, and 2023, when Joe Biden was President, Chris Pappas voted in favor of continuing resolutions to keep the government open and working for the American people.
