Soft-on-crime Democrat Roy Cooper stayed silent this weekend after police released the footage of a repeat offender brutally murdering an innocent passenger on the Charlotte Light Rail. The career criminal who committed the unprovoked fatal stabbing had a rap sheet dating back to 2007, which includes felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and communicating threats. The murderer was released from prison for armed robbery in September 2020, just months after Roy Cooper’s administration began granting criminals early release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then he has repeatedly been arrested and re-released.
“Roy Cooper’s soft-on-crime policies kept this violent criminal on the streets instead of in jail where he belongs, and now an innocent young woman is dead,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Cooper wants to avoid accountability for his dangerous policies and is refusing to say anything about this tragic murder, but North Carolinians who deserve safe communities will hold him accountable in 2026.”
While Roy Cooper hides from accountability, Michael Whatley is calling out Cooper’s soft-on-crime agenda:

Background:
- Cooper was endorsed by a radical group that wants to defund the police.
- In the waning days of Cooper’s governorship, he commuted the sentences of 15 convicted criminals on death row, including murderers and a rapist.
- Under Cooper, in less than a year, nearly 500 illegal immigrants were freed from jails across North Carolina, including those with sex offense, kidnapping, arson, and homicide charges.
- Iryna Zarutska was stabbed to death over two weeks ago on a Charlotte train. The footage of the attack was just released.
- The attacker is a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal record.
