With Election Day approaching, nothing has changed.

The Fallon News ripped Cortez Masto in an editorial today for taking a sham tour through Northern Nevada in which dodging the public was the primary goal. Cortez Masto’s campaign even intentionally misled one local news outlet by sharing the wrong day for an event so it couldn’t be covered:

Her campaign handlers didn’t want the press — and the public — to know she was stopping in communities such as Ely, Elko, Winnemucca and Fallon. It was only by a fluke that the Elko and Lovelock newspapers, for example, learned of her whirlwind stop…

The Elko Daily Free Press learned of her stop — only by accident — when a member of the local Democratic Party notified the newspaper without the blessing of her staff. The Daily Free Press then initiated emails with the Cortez-Masto camp to obtain more details. According to the newspaper’s editor, the information provided to him had the wrong day so the Daily Free Press had to hunt down the correct information…

The LVN learned of her tour on Thursday, the same day of her stop in Fallon. The LVN made a few calls afterward and learned the Cortez-Masto camp told local Democrats, some of the finest people anyone would meet, they did not want the LVN to attend her event. Their answer to them was a resounding NO…

The Cortez-Masto handlers, instead, told the local Democrats to make a few calls and invite ‘their Democratic friends’; as a result, the LVN learned only 16 attended the event.

Cortez Masto’s dodginess harkens back to the most mind-numbing days of her campaign last summer, when the candidate promised to review the Iran deal in the ‘coming days’ and then took months to finally reveal a position.

Given the disastrous consequences of her signature foreign policy and national security initiative, it’s easy to see why Cortez Masto wants to run for cover. A new Wall Street Journal report indicates that the Obama administration orchestrated a cash payment to Iran after the release of four Americans who were detained by the Iranian government.

  • “The Obama administration secretly organized an airlift of $400 million worth of cash to Iran that coincided with the January release of four Americans detained in Tehran, according to U.S. and European officials and congressional staff briefed on the operation afterward.” (Jay Solomon and Carol E. Lee, “U.S. Sent Cash to Iran As Americans Were Freed,” Wall Street Journal, 8/3/16)

The apparent hostage negotiation with a state sponsor of terror came just a few short months after President Obama declared the nuclear deal “offers an opportunity to move in a new direction” while the Iranian president claimed the agreement started a “new chapter” with the United States.

But even as the failures of the Iran deal continue to mount, Catherine Cortez Masto can’t name a single element of the agreement that she finds concerning.

No wonder she’s on the run.
