Washington, D.C. – Tonight at 11:59 pm ET, Governor Andrew Cuomo will officially resign as Governor of New York. It marks the end of an administration mired in sexual assault allegations against the Governor. However, it was the nursing home COVID-19 policies and the undercounting/coverup of nursing home deaths that cost lives and hurt many thousands of New Yorkers.
Sadly, when bills were proposed in the U.S. Senate TWICE to hold Governor Cuomo accountable for his utter failures, Senate Democrats rallied to his defense.
While it makes sense for Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to try and deflect embarrassment away from his home state, he was somehow able to convince vulnerable Democrats like Raphael Warnock, Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Michael Bennet to join him.
Now, as Cuomo prepares to leave office, he will be thanking Senate Democrats for helping him avoid any repercussions for his unforgivable policies that led to thousands of unnecessary senior deaths and a mountain of lies.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Andrew Cuomo will leave Albany in disgrace today, but the truth is that he should have resigned months ago following the nursing home crisis. Unfortunately, Chuck Schumer rallied Senate Democrats to help keep the pressure off Cuomo, allowing him more time to mismanage the state and continue his inappropriate behavior. We hope Senators Warnock, Kelly, Hassan, Cortez Masto, and Bennet are held responsible for prolonging his reign of terror multiple times despite overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing.”
