Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) voted in favor of a clean government funding bill yesterday, standing with President Trump to ensure U.S. Coast Guard members are paid, keep veterans’ services open, and protect law enforcement lives. Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats voted to shut down the government, block critical Alaska public media funding secured by Dan Sullivan in exchange for a radical list of demands that includes $1.5 trillion in new spending, funding free healthcare for illegal aliens, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.
“Dan Sullivan is standing with President Trump and fighting to keep the federal government open for Alaska families,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Meanwhile, Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer voted to make U.S. Coast Guard members work without pay and block critical Alaska public media funding all because they want to appease their far-left base that hates President Trump and the wins he has secured for Alaska.”
Schumer’s Shutdown will:
- Force nearly 50,000 members of the U.S. Coast Guard to work without pay.
- Leave military families without pay.
- Stop telehealth services for seniors and in-home treatment options for Medicare patients.
- Threaten vital healthcare and housing programs for veterans.
- Put law enforcement lives on the line.
- Hurt farmers and ranchers who need certainty to produce our food.
- Drive up food prices for America’s most needy families.
- Jeopardize flood insurance for millions of Americans.
Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in spending increases to end the shutdown and:
- Cut $50 billion in rural healthcare funding.
- Restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens.
- Expand taxpayer-funded Medicaid to unemployed, able-bodied individuals without dependents under 14 years old.
- Eliminate Republican-passed fraud protections for taxpayer benefits like Medicaid and SNAP.
