With Patrick Murphy backing out of tonight’s scheduled primary debate against Alan Grayson, he is keeping up his summer-long tradition of avoiding voters in favor of yachting around Nantucket.
Murphy’s no-show at tonight’s debate is especially convenient since he once again got caught in a lie this week when he told Fusion’s Jorge Ramos, “I’m an immigrant.” Murphy, as was noted by multiple media outlets, is decidedly not an immigrant, having been born in Florida and raised in exclusive enclaves like Fisher Island and Key Largo’s Ocean Reef Club.

Murphy has been busted for lying repeatedly throughout his campaign, from embellishing his academic credentials to completely making up several aspects of his professional experience prior to running for office. And in the wake of each of these scandals, there’s one common theme: Murphy has no answer for any of them and resorts to doubling down on his lies.
It’s time for Murphy to own up to his latest fabrication. But as long as he’s a candidate on lockdown, Floridians will never have the opportunity to hear an explanation – no matter how laughable it might be.
