In two days, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is set to expire, potentially disrupting Florida’s real estate market and leaving 1.8 million Floridians without coverage, right in the middle of hurricane season.

Now the Senate must reauthorize this critical program through a short-term fix because Bill Nelson has failed to lead the charge on a long-term fix.

Since Bill Nelson has been in the Senate, the NFIP has come up for reauthorization dozens of times yet Nelson has continually failed to come up with a long-term solution to reform this critical program.

But what did you expect from a career politician who, after almost 30 years in Congress, has only been the primary sponsor of 10 bills that have become law?

“For years Bill Nelson has had multiple opportunities to lead on fixing the National Flood Insurance Program, but instead he put up his feet and did next to nothing to find a long-term solution,” said NRSC Spokesperson Camille Gallo. “Unfortunately for Floridians, Nelson acted like a career politician content on kicking the can down the road when they needed a leader.”
