The report from the Democrat auditor showed that Kander misappropriated $120,000 in state funds and improperly documented salary increases at a time when Missouri was forced to slash more than a billion dollars from its budget.

From the auditor’s report:

Kander Failed To Justify Salary Increases For 44 Government Employees: “The SOS did not completely document salary increases provided to many employees. The SOS lacked a complete record of the reasons for some salary increases given. SOS salaries and wages totaled approximately $ 9million annually during the 3 years ended June 30, 2015. While documentation supporting all 16 promotions reviewed was sufficient; we identified weaknesses in the documentation for the remaining 44 raises reviewed.” (Missouri State Auditor Report, January 2016)

The Missouri Times reports that Kander “did not have adequate controls and procedures in place” leading to the misappropriation of $120,000 in state funds:

  • “SOS was shown to not have ‘adequate controls and procedures in place to record electronic payments.’ ‘Calculation errors led to about $120,000 deposited into the state’s General Revenue Fund instead of the Secretary of State’s Technology Trust Fund over the previous three years,’ read a release from the Auditor’s Office.” (Missouri Times, 1/7/15)

While Kander is busy trying to distance himself from his party’s toxic agenda, he’s proven once again that he’s just another political insider who can’t be trusted with taxpayer dollars. Kander has plenty of time to jet off to Washington to raise money with DC insiders, but he can’t be bothered to stand up for Missouri families.

Will Kander answer questions about who received pay raises and why they were justified? As the state faced over $1 billion in budget cuts, Kander handed out taxpayer dollars for higher salaries – and he owes Missouri families an explanation.
