WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Republican Senatorial Committee released the following statement in response to Senate Democrats blocking common sense voter ID legislation and funding for the Department of Homeland Security:
“Democrats don’t stand for anything anymore, and are just choosing to obstruct everything to appease their radical base and the illegal aliens they are putting above American citizens,” said NRSC Communications Director Joanna Rodriguez. “The voter ID legislation the Senate considered today is supported by over 80% of Americans and the DHS shutdown is wreaking havoc on American families and workers.”
Background:
- Poll after poll shows that the overwhelming majority of Americans support voter ID requirements.
- Even Jon Ossoff required attendees at a campaign event in Georgia to show ID to get in.
- A Heritage Foundation poll found that about two-thirds of Georgia voters would be more likely to support a senator who votes for the SAVE America Act.
- Jeff Merkley said the quiet part out loud: “This bill is about stopping groups from voting who tend to vote for Democrats.”
