Since former President Obama’s election in 2008, Democrats have lost over 1,000(!) seats in Congress and state legislatures, so it was clear Democrats needed a brand makeover to make the party competitive outside of the Northeast and West Coast. Let’s see how they did!

Messengers: After last November, it became clear that Democrats needed bold new leaders who could connect with blue collar voters. And Democrats responded…by keeping New York liberal Chuck Schumer and San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi as their leaders in Congress. Who better to talk to folks in West Virginia and North Dakota?

Policy: Over the past several election cycles, it became abundantly clear that Democrats’ policies are just not popular with the American people. Democrats had a choice to make. Would they move to the center and try to appeal to moderates? Or would they move to the left and try to engage new, liberal voters? Here Schumer and Pelosi took bold, decisive action…and announced a platform indistinguishable from that of Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign (but with less detail!).

Branding: But wait! Democrats got themselves a new slogan! That should do the trick!
A Better Deal: Same failed messengers, Same failed policies, New slogan!

“Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are the gifts that keep on giving,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “If national Democrats think all they need is a new slogan, the 2018 election is going to be a real surprise for them.”
