In case you missed the circus yesterday, Democratic presidential hopefuls are trying to turn Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing into more of a 2020 primary contest than a serious debate. But while the ambition-obsessed Senators put on a performance for future campaign ads, they’re throwing red state Democrats under the bus.
Proof Dems are focused more on 2020 than keeping their red state colleagues in the Senate:
- Chuck Schumer orchestrated a coordinated effort to disrupt and protest the hearing despite the ramifications these antics would have on red state Dems.
- Before Chairman Grassley could even begin his opening statement, Kamala Harris, who announced her opposition to ANY nominee before Judge Kavanaugh was even named, quickly interrupted him to urge the process be stopped.
- Cory Booker sent out a fundraising email urging donors to help stop Judge Kavanaugh.
- Blumenthal, Klobuchar and others continued to interject and delay the hearing despite announcing weeks ago they would not support Kavanaugh’s nomination.
While Democratic strategists claim these 2020 hopefuls are trying to energize and engage progressives, they are forgetting one simple fact – there are only so many progressives in states like North Dakota, Indiana, Missouri and West Virginia to energize. Today’s continued chaos surely will bring more headaches for red state Dems.
