Senate Democrats once again proved there’s no issue that they won’t play politics with in their quest to obstruct President Trump.
This time, Democrats voted against confirmation of CIA Director Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State in an attempt to keep the nation’s top diplomatic spot vacant. Prior to President Trump’s election, Democrats and Republicans alike agreed that confirmation of Secretaries of State should not be politically charged, as John Kerry was confirmed 94-3, Hillary Clinton 94-2, Condoleeza Rice 85-13 and Colin Powell by voice vote. Democrats’ opposition to Pompeo is particularly troubling since just over a year ago he was confirmed to head the CIA, earning the votes of 15 members of the Democratic Caucus.
“Senate Democrats’ decision to vote against an eminently qualified nominee for Secretary of State reeks of blind partisanship,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Democrats have shown their top priority is appeasing their increasingly radical base, and even national security won’t get in their way.”
