Washington, D.C – While hundreds of Cubans are risking it all for basic human rights, freedom and democracy, the radical Left decided to point the finger at their favorite target: America.
For years, the Castro regime has violated the basic human rights of the Cuban people and is the most powerful force propping up dictators in Latin America like Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega. The Obama-Biden Administration’s appeasement policies simply funneled more money to the Cuban regime, allowing it to expand its control and influence in Latin America.
But the radical Left is blaming America for the struggles of the Cuban people. Just yesterday, Black Lives Matter put out a statement saying “The people of Cuba are being punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination…..Now, we look to President Biden to end the embargo…”
Do vulnerable Senate Democrats like Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto, Raphael Warnock, and Michael Bennet agree with Black Lives Matter that the United States is at fault, and we should end the embargo? As strong supporters of Black Lives Matter (Kelly, Hassan, Cortez Masto, Warnock, Bennet), we are eager to hear their perspectives.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “The radical Left is watching the uprising in Cuba and blaming none other than their favorite target for the plight of the Cuban people: America. As Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto, Raphael Warnock, and Michael Bennet fight to defend their Senate seats, their constituents and the Cuban American communities throughout our nation deserve to know where they stand. Do they join Black Lives Matter in defending the Cuban Regime, faulting the United States for the struggles of the Cuban people, and supporting ending the embargo? Freedom-loving people in the United States stand with the brave people of Cuba, not the dictatorship that is bleeding the island dry.”
