Joe Donnelly was a guest on former Obama Senior Advisor David Axelrod’s podcast today, and boy did he let his guard down.

Donnelly, in a statement that harkens back to Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comment, dismissed President Trump’s supporters, “The base is 30-35 percent. That’s not who America is.” Not who America is. This is the kind of statement you might expect to hear from #resistance leaders like Elizabeth Warren, but not a Senator from Indiana, a state that voted for President Trump by a 19-point margin. Does Joe Donnelly think the 57.2% of Hoosiers who voted for Donnelly are “not who America is?”

“Joe Donnelly showed his true colors when he told a liberal podcast that President Trump’s supporters are ‘not who America is,’” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Donnelly stood by Hillary Clinton after her infamous ‘basket of deplorables’ comment, so it should come as no surprise that he holds Hoosiers who voted for President Trump in the same contempt.”
