Washington, D.C – Move over voter ID, there is a new subject Democrats are scrambling to contradict themselves on: Dynamic Scoring.
In 2017, Republicans used dynamic scoring of the tax bill to measure the macroeconomic impact of economy-stimulating tax cuts, and Democrats freaked out. Now, as they scramble to find ways to pay for their reckless $3.5 trillion spending bill that is aimed at social programs rather than economic stimulation, they are preparing to twist dynamic scoring to fit their agenda. Take a look at these world-class flip-flops:
- Bernie Sanders THEN: Dynamic scoring a “gimmick to help justify more tax cuts.”
- Bernie Sanders NOW: “Well, I guess if my Republican colleagues introduced the concept, they would be enthusiastically supportive of us using it as well.”
- Chuck Schumer THEN: “Dynamic scoring is fake math. It’s just made-up, fake math to hide another deficit-busting tax cut to benefit the wealthiest Republicans.”
- Chuck Schumer NOW: Supports it.
- Ways and Means Dems THEN: Dynamic scoring is “voodoo economics.”
- Ways and Means Dems NOW: Support it.
So when trying to lower working Americans’ tax burden, measuring the economic impact of greater spending power is “fake math.” But when you plan to dump trillions into an economy suffering from out-of-control inflation, it’s sound math? Oh, how the times have changed.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Staying on brand, Democrats think the American people are too stupid to remember what they talked about ad nauseam only a few years ago. Chuck Schumer and the rest of Senate Democrats screamed themselves hoarse bashing dynamic scoring of tax cuts aimed at economic growth. Now they hope liberal economists can pull a rabbit out of a hat to explain the merits of their $3.5 trillion disaster of a spending bill. Where do vulnerable Democrats like Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto, Raphael Warnock, and Michael Bennet stand on this issue now? Dynamic scoring is sound, but liberal economics are not and the evidence is all around us. Should this socialist spending spree become law, the evidence will continue to pile up.”
