Tina Smith’s got some explaining to do after new reports detailed Rep. Keith Ellison’s private dinner with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and noted anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.

Since becoming a U.S. Senator, Smith has embraced Ellison, hosting a joint event with him and even enthusiastically accepting his endorsement. Ellison, of course, is no stranger to controversy, repeatedly drawing negative headlines for his inflammatory remarks and radical ties. With news of Ellison’s latest actions drawing newfound scrutiny, will Smith continue to campaign with Minnesota’s most extreme politician or will she disavow his support?

“If Tina Smith is serious about representing all Minnesotans, she needs to reject Rep. Ellison’s endorsement and take a stand against the hostile regimes he’s more than happy to appease,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Ellison’s antics have no place in American politics and Minnesota’s newest Senator should speak up.”
