Claire McCaskill’s difficult road to re-election just got more interesting.
Two days after it was revealed Bernie Sanders and his ardent followers want Democrats to get behind a single-payer health care system or face a primary, Claire McCaskill has received a primary challenge from Angelica Earl. Earl is running her campaign on a push for “single-payer health care for all.” This makes things tricky for McCaskill, who thus far has avoided embracing a single-payer health care system and its $32 trillion price tag. But as the political pressure mounts, will McCaskill be able to oppose her party’s increasingly aggressive demands for a single-payer system?
“Claire McCaskill is stuck between a rock and a hard place,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “McCaskill can’t afford losing her base, but the alternative of embracing a $32 trillion government-run health care system would be political suicide.”
