Bill Nelson is trying desperately to refute claims that he exposed classified information when he alleged that Russia already penetrated some voter registration systems in Florida.

But it doesn’t seem like many people are buying it.

While appearing on a local Florida news program, Tampa Bay Times’ Political Editor Adam Smith said he believes Nelson revealed classified information when making the alarming claim.

NBC News reported that three unnamed intelligence sources say there is a “classified basis for Nelson’s assertion,” and shockingly admitted that “Nelson was not supposed to speak publicly about the matter.” Oddly enough, Nelson’s office seemed to welcome this report, tweeting in support of it.

On top of this, Nelson himself admitted the information was “classified,” when pressed to elaborate on the allegation.

And Democrats are starting to sound alarm bells. Jason Henry, a Democratic analyst, said Nelson “does have to prove it at this point…I think he’s at a bad position right now.”

With doubts growing by the day, it’s about time for Nelson to fess up, did he expose classified information to the press or did he make the whole thing up?

“It’s been nearly two weeks since Bill Nelson first made his alarming allegation and Floridians are still being left in the dark by their senator,” said NRSC Spokesperson Camille Gallo. “As doubts and confusion grow, Bill Nelson has only one option, and it’s to finally tell the truth about his explosive claim.”
