WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) voted in favor of shutting down the federal government in the House of Representatives. Stevens voted to shut down critical government services, delay paychecks to military service members, risk veterans’ healthcare, and slash resources for law enforcement.
“Haley Stevens said in the past that a ‘government shutdown poses a threat to countless Americans,’ and yet, she still voted to shut the government down today,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “This vote further proves she cares more about scoring partisan political points in Democrats’ messy Senate primary than keeping critical services open and ensuring our troops are paid.”
Background:
- In 2024, under President Biden, Stevens voted in favor of a continuing resolution. She posted on X, “A government shutdown poses a threat to countless Americans” and “As members of Congress, it’s our job to solve problems for Americans, not add to them.”
