Ask Catherine Cortez Masto a question and you’re not likely to get an answer. When asked if she would endorse a presidential candidate, Cortez Masto stumbled around an answer as she refused to back Hillary Clinton.

But that was then. Now, a day after a report indicating that Harry Reid is quietly backing Clinton, his hand-picked candidate will announce her endorsement as well.

With Clinton attempting to right the ship before Saturday’s Democrat caucuses in Nevada, it’s clear that Reid has given the green light for Cortez Masto to endorse his favored candidate. Yesterday, Politico reported that Reid is quietly supporting Clinton over Bernie Sanders.

  • “Harry Reid clearly wants Hillary Clinton to be the next president. Yet he hasn’t endorsed her, even as she struggles to ward off a resilient Bernie Sanders… But the canny Senate minority leader has his own logic, naturally… No matter how much he wants Clinton at the top of the ticket — many Democrats believe a socialist there would badly damage their down-ballot prospects, and thus their hopes of retaking the Senate — he’s also acutely aware that putting his thumb on the scale could alienate Sanders supporters.” (Burgess Everett, “Why Harry Reid Hasn’t Endorsed Hillary Clinton,” Politico, 2/10/16)

The Reid-approved endorsement is yet another clear signal that Cortez Masto will amount to nothing more than a rubber stamp to continue the deeply unpopular Obama-Reid agenda in Washington. Nevada families deserve a leader who will put them first – not a politician who will defer to her political godfather at every turn.
