After getting called out for lying about the Senate tax bill, Heidi Heitkamp and her office engaged in a cover-up to pretend like it never happened.
In a desperate attempt to defend her vote for higher taxes, Heitkamp released faulty data about the effects of the Senate’s tax plan. Rather than correcting the record, Heitkamp deleted the misleading tweets and edited the releases after-the-fact and without offering any clarification. Heitkamp’s deception even forced a reporter to issue a correction after publishing a story with the bad data she provided. North Dakotans deserve an answer about why Heitkamp lied to them about the tax bill.
“Senator Heitkamp’s deceitful actions make it clear North Dakotans can’t trust a word she says,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Instead of fighting to do what’s best for North Dakota families and businesses, Heitkamp has shown she’s willing to do whatever she can to bash the Senate’s tax cuts, even if it means covering up blatant lies.”
