Washington, D.C. – The “$3.5 trillion” reconciliation package – which is really a $5 trillion package – has been roundly criticized by Republicans for weeks, and rightfully so. Our nation is suffering from historic inflation spikes, an unsustainable national debt, and an employment crisis. The last thing our economy needs is trillions in new spending and taxation. But don’t take our word for it, the “Mod Squad” of House Democrats have written a letter that says:

“Separately, as we begin the reconciliation process, we have concerns about the specific components of the potential package. Before the House adopts a budget resolution, Members of Congress should be able to review a detailed scope of the spending levels and revenue raisers. These specifics are crucial, given the combined threat of rising inflation, national debt, and the trillions recently, and appropriately, allocated to the Covid-19 emergency.”

We could not agree more.  Oddly, across the Capitol in the Senate, the vulnerable Senators who LOVE to claim they are “moderate,” are proving they are anything but moderate by remaining silent on the liberal reconciliation bill.  Why won’t Senators Maggie Hassan, Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, Raphael Warnock and Michael Bennet speak out like their Democrat colleagues in the House?

Inflation remains a top concern of the American people. A recent Morning Consult/Politico poll found that nearly 60% of voters blame the Democrats’ reckless agenda for the rising cost of everything from gas to groceries, and another poll saw Biden’s approval take a nosedive for his handling of the economy. A National Battleground Survey from the NRSC and RGA also found that a majority of Americans blame Democrats’ tax-and-spend policies for the jump in inflation.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “There is absolutely nothing moderate about the reconciliation bill being considered in the Senate.  It will make inflation worse and lead to the biggest tax increase in recent history.  We are pleased to hear that some House Democrats are echoing what we have said for weeks but are stunned at the silence from some of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats. If this bill doesn’t cause concern to self-declared ‘moderates,’ we fear nothing will.”
