As Washington Democrats continue flailing in the wake of their defeat in November, Sherrod Brown, a liberal Senator from the heart of Trump country has emerged as the face of the party’s new strategy of obstruction.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Brown was “heartbroken” after Hillary Clinton lost his home state by nearly a half million votes, and soon after emerged as one of the most partisan voices on the far left. Brown’s new role was particularly evident when he took just eleven minutes to announce his opposition to President Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court:
“Ohio’s senior senator has emerged, along with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., as one of the best-known Senate progressives willing to confront Trump. For example, within minutes of Trump’s announcement last month that he would nominate federal Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, Brown announced his opposition.
“Describing that as a ‘pretty easy call,’ Brown said his staff had researched Gorsuch and the two other judges Trump was considering and concluded there was no reason to wait.”
“While Sherrod Brown is busy taking his place as one of the leading figures among Washington liberals, Ohioans are left wondering why he refuses to honor their will,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Sherrod Brown’s knee-jerk opposition to Judge Neil Gorsuch shows that he is unwilling to represent the views of Ohio voters in Washington.”
