North Dakotans are sick and tired of Heidi Heitkamp’s hypocrisy and political pandering.

In an op-ed published today, North Dakota State Senator Kelly Armstrong blasts Heitkamp for continuously voting against the interests of North Dakota. While Heidi Heitkamp pretends to play the role of a pragmatic politician fighting for North Dakota, the cold reality is she is nothing more than a die-hard partisan committed to advancing the extreme agenda of Washington liberals. Armstrong says it best, “If Senator Heitkamp’s first vote is to elect Senator Chuck Schumer as majority leader, does it matter what her second vote is?”

Kelly Armstrong, North Dakota State Senator

August 7, 2017

Senator Heitkamp has routinely voted against the principles and the values of North Dakotans.

There is a campaign looming in 2018, and the NDGOP believes that the truth needs to be told about Senator Heitkamp’s repeated abandonment of traditional North Dakota values such as free market economics, limited government, national security, and sanctity of life.

As Senator Heitkamp parades around the country raising money for re-election she changes her tune to make pleas of bipartisanship and claims that she will work across the aisle to break the gridlock. North Dakotan’s will see through this election season pandering. Senator Heitkamp has had six years to work across the aisle, and her attempts to portray herself as a moderate to attract necessary Republican votes will not work. She is a liberal, beltway Democrat who has been in lock step with Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Chuck Schumer since her election.

Senator Heitkamp has been a die-hard supporter of Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, and Obama nominees to the EPA and Supreme Court. These alone should be enough to give every North Dakotan pause. However, if that is not enough ask this question. “If Senator Heitkamp’s first vote is to elect Senator Chuck Schumer as majority leader, does it matter what her second vote is?”

Obamacare is a disaster for North Dakota. Just this week the Wall Street Journal’s reported that our premiums are going up by 20% in 2018. Senator Heitkamp’s continued support of this entitlement which is continuing to balloon in cost, does not allow for the purchase of insurance across state lines, does not allow for health savings accounts, the slew of tax increases, and is causing providers to flee rural markets in droves. Yet Senator Heitkamp obstructs meaningful reform.

Senator Heitkamp voted for the terrible Obama Iran deal. This deal sent hundreds of millions of dollars of cash to Tehran. Now that it is campaign season, she wants new sanctions on Iran so that the people of North Dakota will forget this bad deal. By going along with the Obama administration’s bad deal with Iran, she helps empower a major sponsor of terrorism. North Dakotan’s don’t appreciate bad deals, and they certainly don’t support double talk to get out of them.

More recently Senator Heitkamp’s failure to support a rollback of Obama era rule relating to methane emissions which has a terrible effect on North Dakota’s energy industry. The BLM methane rule imposes unworkable federal mandates on North Dakota energy producers. The State of North Dakota has flaring under control and we don’t need the federal governments intrusion. These energy industry killing regulations were a parting shot from the Obama administration’s radical environmentalist cohorts and Senator Heitkamp’s was in lock step. It might be good for fundraising from the out of state environmentalists, but it’s bad for North Dakota jobs.

North Dakota voters deserve answers, not the Washington-Heitkamp two step. Her beltway super PAC’s can create a message to prop her up, but she is going to have to answer tough questions here. The North Dakota Republican Party is committed to holding her accountable so the people of North Dakota know the real Heidi Heitkamp. Our voters deserve answers not Washington spin.
