But as far back as 2010, media reports declared that Garland would be ideologically aligned with President Obama if confirmed to the Supreme Court. Last month, the New York Times said the addition of Garland would make the Supreme Court more liberal than at any point in the last 50 years.

And if there’s any question that Merrick Garland is a liberal judge who would uphold the legacy and agenda of Barack Obama, just ask the most liberal Democrats in the U.S. Senate – who heaped universal praise upon him when the nomination was made.

SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: I’m Very Happy With This Choice

  • CNN’S JAKE TAPPER: You know how to get voters fired up. Do you wish President Obama had picked somebody who might excite democratic voters more? SEN. SCHUMER: No, I’m very happy with this choice. I think Democratic voters are excited. (CNN’s “The Lead With Jake Tapper,” 3/16/16)

SENATOR BARBARA BOXER: Garland A ‘Heartwarming Pick’

  • “Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) described the choice as ‘a heartwarming pick.’” (Morning Consult, 3/16/16)

SENATOR ELIZABETH WARREN: Garland ‘Served With Distinction’

  • “Judge Merrick Garland has served his country with distinction – as a prosecutor, DOJ official, & DC Circuit judge.” (Sen. Elizabeth Warren Tweet, 3/16/16)

SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS: Garland ‘A Strong Nominee’

  • “Vermont Sen. Sanders praised Garland as a ‘strong nominee’ and called on Grassley to hold confirmation hearings.” (Time, 3/16/16)

SENATE MINORITY LEADER HARRY REID: Merrick Garland Is ‘Brilliant’

  • “Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid: ‘Judge Merrick Garland is a brilliant man who will make a fine Supreme Court justice.’” (Cleveland.com, 3/16/16)

Given the company Garland is keeping, it’s clear that the president’s nominee is a liberal judge who will drastically shift the balance of the Supreme Court. Don’t take our word for it. Just ask his biggest admirers.
