Senate Dems made it official. They just proved to Americans that they prefer to be the party of unhinged protesters rather than a rational party willing to give an eminently qualified jurist a chance.
We all know that when former President Obama nominated Justices Sotomayor and Kagan, Republicans were willing to give them a fair evaluation. But now, with President Trump in the White House, the Democrats have become so extreme that any qualified jurist would have been voted down. That’s why you saw Senate Dems coming out in opposition even before a nominee was named.
So, what does this tactic get them?
Is this a ploy for 2020 presidential wannabes to show that they, in fact, are the most woke? Because right now all they got were red state Democrats going on the record to oppose President Trump’s Supreme Court pick 31 days before the election, all but ensuring their defeat this November. And don’t forget that the Republican Party is more energized than ever, and these red state Dems are running in states President Trump carried (five states by double digits) in 2016.
“Senate Democrats embarrassed themselves, embarrassed the country and turned this confirmation process into a complete circus,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Red state Democrats have no one but themselves to blame for losing this fall when they blindly followed Chuck Schumer, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren as they disgraced this country with ugly smear tactics for political gain.”
