In case you missed it, the Ohio FOP backed Jon Husted today over Sherrod Brown. This is the fifth labor organization to endorse Husted after previously supporting Brown.
Brown has lost the support of two Ohio chapters of the International Union of Operating Engineers, the Northwest Building and Trades Council, and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers to Husted this cycle.
“Ohio’s law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve leaders who have their backs,” Husted said. “I’m honored to earn the FOP’s endorsement. They know what’s at stake because they’ve lived the consequences of Sherrod Brown’s record: during his 32 years in Washington, Brown voted eight times to fund sanctuary cities and supported amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants. I’ll always stand with our police, secure the border and fight for the safety of Ohio families.”
“Our members take these decisions seriously because the officials elected statewide have a direct impact on public safety, the justice system and the working conditions of law enforcement officers,” FOP of Ohio President Jay McDonald said. “We’re not asking for anything revolutionary – we want candidates with a proven commitment to supporting law enforcement and standing with us on issues that help our members keep their communities safe.”
For 32 years in Washington, Brown sided with defund the police radicals over Ohio’s law enforcement officers.
- Praised the defund the police movement.
- Said policing reinforces institutionalized racism.
- Opposes qualified immunity.
- Directed his book royalties to a radical group that wants to defund the police and abolish ICE.
- Ignored the facts and instead slandered Columbus police after they protected a woman from a girl who tried stabbing her.
