Today, the Senate is expected to vote on funding the federal government. But Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) already voted for the Schumer Shutdown and he wants to do it again. Ossoff and Senate Democrats’ radical demands include $1.5 trillion in new spending, funding free healthcare for illegal aliens, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.
“Jon Ossoff will always oppose President Trump and vote with the Democrats in Washington,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Ossoff’s vote today is a betrayal of Georgians that will risk military families not getting paid and veterans unable to access critical services all because the Democrat Party wants to gut funding for rural hospitals and restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens.”
Background:
- Ossoff previously voted to shut down the government, delay paychecks to military service members, and risk veterans’ healthcare.
- Ossoff also voted to shut down the federal government earlier this year.
Jon Ossoff’s government shutdown would:
- Leave military families without pay
- Put law enforcement lives on the line
- Jeopardize flood insurance for millions of Americans during hurricane season
- Threaten vital healthcare and housing programs for veterans
- Allow funding for a critical Medicare patients’ treatment to expire
- Hurt farmers and ranchers who need certainty to produce our food
- Drive up food prices for America’s most needy families
Jon Ossoff and Senate Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in spending increases to end the shutdown and:
- Revoke $50 billion in rural health care funding
- Restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens
- Expand taxpayer-funded Medicaid to unemployed, able-bodied individuals without dependents under 14 years old
- Eliminate Republican-passed fraud protections for taxpayer benefits like Medicaid and SNAP
