• “Asked to comment on Wednesday after speaking to the Rotary Club of Kirksville, Kander urged his opposition to review Missouri law… ‘Anybody who wants to comment on this and say that, they really apparently ought to read the law in Missouri first and know how elections work, because it appears they don’t.’ Kander said his office has launched a review of the situation in St. Louis County.” (Jason Hunsicker, “Kander To His Critics On St. Louis County Municipal Election: Read The Law In Missouri First,” Kirksville Daily Express, 4/6/16)

Jason Kander isn’t even in Washington and he’s already passing the buck to someone else. That’s probably the very reason why this week’s debacle in St. Louis County, where 63 precincts ran out of ballots, was a repeat performance of the 2014 election – when 20 percent of the county’s polling places ran out of ballots under Kander’s watch.

Here are a few important questions for Kander:

  • If you have no responsibility for the ballot shortage, why are you launching a review of the process?

  • Why didn’t you launch an investigation into widespread problems in the same county when they occurred two years ago?

  • By failing to investigate and fix the problems in St. Louis County in 2014, are you not responsible for this week’s ballot shortage?

  • How are you going to change Washington if you’re not willing to take responsibility for problems that happen on your watch?

Looking forward to the next deflection from Jason Kander.
