According to the Associated Press, Kander, who claims to be a ‘fifth generation Missourian,’ wasn’t even born in Missouri and has only lived there since 2005.

Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt is using a Kansas Jayhawk to take a political swipe at Democratic challenger Jason Kander…Blunt’s campaign is trying to make an issue of Kander’s assertion that he is a fifth-generation Missourian. Kander was born and attended high school in Kansas. But he has made Missouri his home since graduating from Georgetown University law school in 2005.” (“Sen. Blunt Prodding Challenger Kander With Jayhawk Mascot,” Associated Press, 7/26/16)

Kander’s misleading claim isn’t a one-time slip. He’s made the claim in speeches and even includes it prominently in his official campaign biography.

JASON KANDER: “I’M A FIFTH GENERATION MISSOURIAN.”

But the truth just doesn’t match Kander’s convenient political storytelling. And it paints a picture of a politician who will say anything to get elected. Not too surprising coming from a guy who rails against lobbyists and then cashes their checks to fund his campaign.

Born and raised in Kansas, graduated from high school in Kansas, registered to vote in Kansas. Jason Kander has a problem with the truth – and he owes voters in his adopted homestate of Missouri an explanation.
