Caught lying repeatedly about his resume, and then caught lying about lying about his resume, Privileged Patrick and his handlers finally realized he can’t open his mouth without embarrassing himself. A Miami Herald investigation revealed Murphy’s new campaign strategy: run and hide.
- “This summer, the Jupiter congressman has actually had relatively few public campaign stops — prompting opponents to accuse him of hiding from voters with less than three weeks to go before the Aug. 30 primary and as mail-in ballots are already being cast…Murphy — the frontrunner in the Democratic primary for Marco Rubio’s U.S. Senate seat — has kept a low profile in the past couple of months, ever since media reports revealed he had embellished his academic and professional credentials by either incorrectly stating them or by omitting a full explanation.” (Kristen Clark, “With Mostly Quiet Summer, Is Patrick Murphy Avoiding Voters?” Miami Herald, 8/9/16)
The Herald story comes just days after the Tampa Bay Times named Murphy its ‘loser of the week’ – for the fourth time this summer – after he backed out of his scheduled debate with Alan Grayson. Piling on even further, Murphy was just called out by one of his top supporters for canceling the debate when former Florida CFO Alex Sink said the decision was “bad for democracy.”
- “Former CFO and Democratic candidate for governor Alex Sink appeared as part of another star-studded panel on WEDU’s Florida This Week in Tampa Bay last week and said it was ‘bad for democracy’ that her favored U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy refused to participate in a televised debate with Democrat Alan Grayson. ‘The optics look bad, I believe, for our candidates not to be willing to get up in front of the public and let the voters decide for themselves,’ Sink said.” (Adam Smith, “Video: Patrick Murphy Backer Alex Sink Says He Should Debate Alan Grayson,” Tampa Bay Times, 8/10/16)
As Murphy’s blunders continue to pile up, the nonpartisan Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report shifted its rating of the race in favor of Republicans:
The congressman starts further back than other Democratic challengers…We’re changing The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call rating of the Florida Senate race from Tossup to Tilts Republican.
No wonder this guy spends so much time on his dad’s yacht.
