Chairman Scott: “Radicals are now in charge of the Democrat Party and, unfortunately, Senator Leahy has decided to join them.”
Washington, D.C. – Israel’s “Iron Dome” defense system has saved countless innocent lives from terrorist rocket attacks. To ensure the system stays operable, the United States planned to send the Middle East’s only democracy $1 billion. Last week in the House, nine members of Congress voted to withhold the money to fund this purely defensive modern marvel, sending shockwaves through the United States and Israel.
Yesterday, Senate Appropriations Chairman Patrick Leahy said he agreed with the position of radicals like Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) – Israel should be denied funding for a weapons system designed to save innocent civilians: “Israel doesn’t need it [sic: funding]. They got plenty of money…”
Leahy said he doesn’t understand the pressing need for Iron Dome funding. But in Israel, where the Iron Dome has knocked down hundreds of rockets from terrorists like Hamas, the need is always a top priority.
Statement from NRSC Chairman Rick Scott: “Senator Leahy’s shocking declaration that he supports stripping Iron Dome funding is deeply troubling to Americans across the country, including Vermont. For any member of the Senate to suggest that it is not a pressing need to fund a system that protects innocent lives from terrorists is appalling. Radicals are now in charge of the Democrat Party and, unfortunately, Senator Leahy has decided to join them.”
