The Columbus Dispatch reports that Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe will no longer be the featured guest of Retread Ted’s June 2nd fundraiser.
McAuliffe’s plans appear to have changed after reports broke earlier this week that he is the subject of an FBI investigation into whether donations to his gubernatorial campaign broke the law.
When asked about the change, Strickland’s campaign replied only to say that McAuliffe was no longer attending. Like anything else controversial this election cycle (such as closing Guantanamo Bay, Hillary Clinton’s promise to put coal miners out of business, etc.), Retread Ted has chosen to sit on the sidelines in silence rather than take a position against his buddies.
The news couldn’t come at a worse time for Strickland who has struggled to raise money for his retread campaign. In fact, he’s been named a “fundraising loser,” and his chief fundraiser saw the writing on the wall and jumped the sinking ship late last year.
It’s worth remembering: Strickland and McAuliffe are no strangers. In fact, during Governor McAuliffe’s 2013 Gubernatorial bid, Retread Ted came to his aid and campaigned for him in Virginia.
