Following her vote to shut down the government last week, Tina Smith is now unashamedly lying to constituents.
Smith took to Twitter last night to defend her vote against restricting abortion after 5 months. Smith declared that the legislation would “ban abortion after 20 weeks, with no exception to protect a woman’s health and no exceptions for survivors of rape and incest.” This is absolutely untrue. But don’t take my word for it.
New York Times: “…exceptions could be made when the life of the mother was at risk, or in cases of rape or incest.”
Washington Times: “The legislation contained exceptions for rape, incest and threat to the life of the mother.”
Politico: “There are exceptions for pregnancies that threaten the woman’s life or are the result of rape or incest.”
Wall Street Journal: “Under the legislation, a woman could have an abortion after 20 weeks if her life was deemed at risk…The bill would permit abortions in cases of rape and incest…”
“Tina Smith failed Minnesota voters by voting to protect the most extreme positions of the Democratic Party, and then blatantly lying about it,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “It’s obvious Minnesotans can’t trust her to tell the truth or protect the values important to them.”
