New Jersey Senator Cory Booker will be in Helena tomorrow campaigning for Jon Tester. Booker who has voted 98% of the time with Massachusetts Progressive Senator Elizabeth Warren has also voted against almost all of President Trump’s cabinet nominee’s.

It will be interesting to see what the New Jersey Senator thinks he has in common with Montana families. After all, Booker has said he sees “little to no need for guns at all.” Tester says Cory Booker will bring a “powerful perspective to Montana.”

  • Senator Booker Said He Would Ban All Guns If He Could. “But Booker’s comments also show a stark shift from those of a young Newark councilman who told C-SPAN in 2000 that he favored banning all guns. His name: Cory Booker. ‘In my urban environment I see little to no need for guns at all,’ Booker said during the interview. He mentioned handguns in particular, but when asked if he would ban guns in general, Booker said, ‘I would. If I had the power to do so, I would.’” (David Giambusso, “Once Firm On Firearms, Booker Is Now Gun-Shy About Weapons Ban,” The Star-Ledger, 1/27/13)

Booker does have a lot in common with Jon Tester. Booker and Tester have both voted for several regulations and legislative efforts that are against Montana values and have caused economic harm to Montana families.

  • Tester And Booker Voted To Keep Obama’s Stream Protection Rule Which Limits Coal Mining Operations And Could’ve Cost Nearly 300,000 Jobs. (H.J.Res.38 CQ Vote # 43; 2/2/17)
  • Tester And Booker Voted To Keep Obama’s WOTUS (Waters Of The United States) Regulation which removed local control over land and water. (S.J.Res.22, CQ Vote #297, 11/4/15)
  • Tester And Booker Voted To Block The Defunding Of “Sanctuary Cities” – Cities That Ignore Federal Laws and Welcome Illegal Immigrants. (S.2146, CQ Vote #280, 10/20/15)
  • Tester And Booker Voted In Favor Of Obama’s Dangerous Nuclear Deal With Iran. (H.J.Res.61, CQ Vote #264, 9/10/15)

It is telling that Jon Tester has asked one of the most liberal politicians in Washington to come and campaign with him.
