At an Export-Import Bank seminar yesterday in Charleston, Joe Manchin had some choice words for unemployed West Virginians, telling them they were the only ones to blame if they can’t find a job.
Manchin, in a bizarre speech, told West Virginians, “If you can’t find a good job, you’re not looking, you don’t care, you don’t want one.” In a state still reeling from eight years of his good friend Barack Obama’s war on coal, Joe Manchin’s comments are particularly tone deaf. According to BLS statistics, West Virginia’s unemployment rate remains at 5%, nearly a full point higher than the national average. Instead of scolding unemployed West Virginians for not looking hard enough for jobs, Joe Manchin should stop standing with his Democrat colleagues against President Trump’s pro-American jobs agenda.

“Joe Manchin telling unemployed West Virginians that their joblessness is the result of not looking hard enough or not wanting a job is shameful and unbelievably out of touch,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Joe Manchin stood with Barack Obama as his policies decimated West Virginia’s economy, and continues to stand with Washington Democrats against President Trump’s job creation agenda. If Manchin is looking for someone to blame for unemployment in West Virginia, he should look in the mirror.”
