Washington, D.C. – Under Mark Kelly’s leadership, the U.S. is setting new records, but not the records anybody should be proud of. The latest record for Kelly comes from the crisis at the Southern Border that he and Joe Biden have worked together to fuel.

Thanks to Mark Kelly’s votes against enforcing immigration laws, securing the border, and defunding sanctuary cities, the number of migrant encounters along the Southern Border in January 2022 nearly doubled from January 2021 and QUADRUPLED from January 2020. In new data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), migrant encounters reached an alarming high of 153,941 in January compared to 78,414 in January 2021 and 36,585 in January 2020.

Along with a shockingly high number of migrant encounters in January, CBP also reported a “substantial increase” of fentanyl seizures along the border last month. As Arizona grapples with the widespread, negative impacts of fentanyl crossing the border, Mark Kelly is in D.C. voting to defund CBP’s anti-opioid program.

Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “Arizona families are fighting against a border crisis and an opioid crisis, but Mark Kelly isn’t joining the fight. He is working against Arizonans by defunding border security operations and allowing illegal and deadly drugs to flow freely across the southern border. Mark Kelly is joining with left-wing liberals in D.C. to destroy Arizona.”
