The Charlotte Mayoral race is today and Roy Cooper’s leftist ally, Democrat Mayor Vi Lyles, is running for reelection. Lyles is a loyal foot soldier in Cooper’s soft-on-crime regime that has empowered criminals like the Charlotte Light Rail murderer at the expense of North Carolinians’ safety.
“The inmates are running the asylum under Roy Cooper’s soft-on-crime regime and his woke foot soldiers like Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Look no further than Charlotte where innocents, like Iryna Zarutska, are regularly murdered by career criminals who are let back onto the streets because of Cooper’s radical policies.”

Under Roy Cooper’s soft-on-crime regime, criminals are put above the safety of North Carolinians.
- Cooper’s soft-on-crime policies allowed a career criminal to be released 14 times and then murder an innocent woman on the Charlotte Light Rail. Mayor Lyles claimed North Carolinians should have more “compassion” for the murderer.
- Under Lyles, Charlotte saw the most homicides in the city’s history in 2020.
- Violent offenses and overall crime rose in 2024.
- The number of homicides in Charlotte in 2024 almost broke 2020’s record.
- Charlotte has become one of America’s top cities for property crime.
