As Claire McCaskill continues to tout her investigation of opioid producers, I wanted to remind you of McCaskill’s own oversight lapses on the issue.

McCaskill loves to paint herself as an oversight watchdog fighting for the middle class, yet she has profited financially and politically from the same type of companies she is currently investigating.

It was recently disclosed McCaskill and her family made thousands of dollars in profits from selling stock in Allergan, an opioid manufacturer that was one of five companies sued by the state of Ohio for contributing to the opioid crisis. Additionally, McCaskill’s own investigation into opioid producers initially failed to target the nation’s top opioid prescriber, Mallinckrodt. Mallinckrodt is conveniently located in McCaskill’s home state and has made financial contributions to her in the past. Missourians know that when it comes to Claire McCaskill there is always a hidden agenda behind her actions.

“Claire McCaskill likes to conduct oversight on everyone but herself,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “As she attempts to position herself as a champion on the opioid issue, Missourians deserve to know McCaskill and her family have profited off the same type of companies she’s making a public show of investigating.”
