On Monday, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Katie McGinty was caught on camera calling Pat Toomey, “an asshole, dammit.”

But perhaps more surprising than Monday’s name-calling is how McGinty has acted in the days following the incident. In an interview last night with WPXI McGinty chose to laugh off and dismiss her behavior as “just a playful comment,” adding that she is “a little salty.”

As John Baer of The Philadelphia Inquirer accurately points out, McGinty’s comment, “flies in the face of a Democratic convention theme: …we are the party of serious civility.” Despite this blatant hypocrisy, Katie McGinty is still scheduled to take the stage at the DNC tomorrow evening.

In response to McGinty’s comments on Monday, the NRSC released a video highlighting McGinty’s name-calling which is supported by a paid banner ad campaign during the Democratic National Convention.

WPXI INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT:

ANCHOR: “Democratic candidate for Senator Katie McGinty caught on camera calling her opponent a curse word. That clip, now being used in a republican ad. Let’s go back to channel 11’s David Johnson live at the DNC, David, you spoke with McGinty tonight?”

REPORTER: “Yes, Gordon, we asked Katie McGinty for comment about this, she agreed to be interviewed. We met her just down the hall from my position here in the Wells Fargo Center. I said to her in this day and time, Ms. McGinty, you have to know that everywhere you go, people have a phone and a camera and they will be recording you. So I asked her, how this could happen.”

MCGINTY: “Every once in a while I am my father’s daughter, a little salty, I did apologize.”

REPORTER: “So there’s her reaction, there is her statement, she admitted to it, she says she apologized. I followed up that response with this question, I asked her, ‘do you believe that Senator Toomey is that word, that name that you called him?’ And she smiled and she said, ‘just a playful comment made at a rally.’ So there you have that story.”
