In what should be the easiest week for Democratic Senate Candidate Katie McGinty to earn positive press, McGinty has struggled to get back on message after she called Pat Toomey an “asshole” during a press event on Monday. To make matters worse, rather than own her slip-up, McGinty has spent the week blaming her name-calling on “being a little salty.”

The NRSC has launched a new TV ad campaign today that will run in Philadelphia surrounding McGinty’s national debut on stage at the DNC. The TV ad is also supported by a robust digital ad campaign that will direct voters who are searching for the candidate online to the same ad.

In case you missed it:

  • “McGinty has had trouble gaining traction – and money. And she’s been plagued by a series of embarrassing stumbles, like claiming to be the first in her family to graduate from college. Then this week she really “bottomed” out. She was caught on camera at a Democratic event referring to Toomey with a mild expletive.” (Delaware County Daily Times)

  • “[Democrats] have given Katie McGinty a featured speaking position the biggest night of the convention. But that’s not why Katie McGinty is making headlines right now. In a recent public speech she called Toomey a word I can’t even say on TV. It starts with an ‘a’ and ends with ‘e.’” (WHTM)

  • “But earlier this week McGinty made headlines because she used an expletive to describe her opponent, Pat Toomey.” (WTAE)

  • “The National Republican Senatorial Committee will run a new TV ad going after Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate Katie McGinty during her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia tonight, built around McGinty’s remark on Monday that her opponent, GOP Sen. Pat Toomey, is ‘an a–hole.’" (POLITICO)

  • “McGinty’s speech comes three days after she called Toomey an "asshole" during a news conference at a labor union’s Philadelphia office to promote a higher minimum wage. She apologized, but Republicans have seized on that and planned to air a TV ad in Philadelphia to coincide with McGinty’s speech.” (Associated Press)

  • “McGinty was set to speak later Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center, despite calls from Republicans for her to step aside after using inappropriate language against her opponent earlier this week.” (The Intelligencer)

  • “Another new GOP ad is slated to run right around the time she speaks Thursday — chastising her for calling Toomey "an a–hole" earlier this week…Around the same time she speaks, Republicans’ national senate campaign arm has bought TV time for an ad showing the Democrat calling Toomey ‘an a–hole, damn it’ at a Monday press conference.” (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
