Washington, D.C. – Nearly 70% of Americans think that President Biden and his administration handled the Afghanistan withdrawal badly, but apparently, that number doesn’t include the Democrat candidates for U.S. Senate in North Carolina.
In a new interview published by the Charlotte Observer, Cheri Beasley, Jeff Jackson, and Erica Smith all declined to lay much of any blame for the bungled retreat at the feet of America’s Commander-in-Chief.
- Afghanistan veteran Jeff Jackson did say Biden should have sped up the Special Immigrant Visa program to evacuate Afghans but signed off on everything else.
- Cheri Beasley didn’t answer any of the Observer’s questions, and instead offered a trademark word salad that said little of anything.
- Erica Smith went so far as to praise Biden for his actions.
As the Taliban retakes Afghanistan and reimposes their brutal, torturous regime, terrorists have renewed safe haven in the country. Thanks to President Biden’s pullout which left Americans dead and more stranded, he also left behind hundreds of millions of dollars of cutting-edge military equipment that will serve as the foundation of the Taliban’s new military.
To think that President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan was anything but an utter failure that will lead to more terrorism and future U.S. involvement in the region is not living in reality.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “The horror of the Afghanistan pullout will live in infamy in the history of our nation. All candidates for federal office, regardless of party, should be clear-eyed about the failures and work to prevent a pre-9/11 Afghanistan. The Democrat candidates in North Carolina need to put aside politics and wake up to the massive national security crisis unfolding in Afghanistan.”
