Bill Nelson is at it again. This week he spoke at a panel on “The Fight for Freedom: The Cases of Cuba and Venezuela” at George Washington University in Washington. The problem with Nelson speaking on this panel is his lengthy career of being on the wrong side of history when it comes to Cuba and Venezuela. Remember, it was Nelson who embraced Obama’s decision to normalize relations with Cuba. And it was Nelson who met with Hugo Chavez, where he admired Chavez’s revolution.
It was just late last year when the NRSC ran this radio ad in South Florida pointing out Senator Nelson’s support for normalizing relations with dictators like the Castro brothers, which only encourages others, like Chavez and Maduro in Venezuela.
“Bill Nelson has spent his time in Washington being on the wrong side of history when it comes to dictators in Cuba and Venezuela,” said Katie Martin, NRSC Communications Director. “Nelson has praised Chavez’s revolution and embraced Obama’s plan to normalize relations with Cuba. There is no longer a place in the Senate for Nelson and his pro-dictator policies.”
