According to a recent report from Missouri’s Democrat State Auditor, Kander “[doled] out numerous raises to his staff that auditors say weren’t properly explained or documented.” The report also found that Kander misplaced $120,000 in state funds. All of this came during a state budget crisis that required over a billion dollars in spending cuts.

Among the numerous pay raises handed out by Kander during Missouri’s budget crisis, several went to political allies inside the Secretary of State’s office – including a taxpayer-funded salary increase to Kander’s once and current campaign manager, apparently placed on the state payroll in between runs for political office.

‘Spending Party’ will run on broadcast, cable, and digital, and will be seen in multiple Missouri markets. WATCH HERE:

BACKGROUND

According To An Auditor’s Report, Kander Misplaced $120,000 In Taxpayer Dollars And Did Not Provide Proper Documentation For Dozens Of Raises

  • St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "A new state audit hits Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, a Democrat, for doling out numerous raises to his staff that auditors say weren’t properly explained and documented…The statement notes that the issue was raised by state Auditor Nicole Galloway, a Democrat…The audit notes that Kander’s office provided 239 salary hikes to 161 employees, beyond the standard cost-of-living adjustments, between July 2012 and April 2015. It alleges that the office ‘did not maintain complete documentation to support salary increases provided to many employees.’"

  • Missouri Times: "State Auditor Nicole Galloway released an audit Thursday of the Missouri Secretary of State (SOS) Jason Kander’s Office, who was found to have overpayed to the state’s General Revenue Fund. SOS was shown to not have ‘adequate controls and procedures in place to record electronic payments.’"

  • Associated Press: "An audit of the Missouri secretary of state’s office shows $120,000 went to the wrong fund and there wasn’t adequate oversight of raises…The reporting spans the 2015, 2014 and 2013 fiscal years, which mostly falls under Secretary of State Jason Kander’s time in office, which began January 2013. The audit also shows the office didn’t fully document reasons for salary increases."

At The Same Time, Missouri Faced A Budget Crisis That Forced The State To Slash A Billion Dollars In Spending And Eliminate Hundreds Of Jobs

  • St. Louis Public Radio: "Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has announced $1.1 billion in cuts from the Fiscal Year 2015 state budget that goes into effect July 1…Two hundred sixty jobs would be eliminated. Nineteen regional state offices would be closed, including seven from the Department of Revenue, six from the Department of Natural Resources and six from the Department of Mental Health."
