New NRSC Video Frames 2020 Debate: Capitalism vs. Socialism

Washington, D.C. — The NRSC today released a new digital video highlighting what is at stake in the 2020 elections: capitalism vs. socialism.

The new NRSC video contrasts Democrats in their own words failing to defend socialism and attacking capitalism, with Republicans sharing why America will never be a socialist county and how free-market capitalism has unleashed prosperity.

“Socialism has failed, yet Senate Democrats in 2020 have committed to running on the policies of higher taxes, bigger government, and socialist proposals like the Green New Deal,” said NRSC Communications Director Jesse Hunt. “Voters know Republicans are committed to defending freedom and releasing opportunity so people can achieve the American Dream.”

CHARLES PAYNE: A new Gallup poll showing Democrats have given up on capitalism, looking towards socialism for the answers.

CHRIS HAYES: What is the Bernie Sanders’ theory of the case for why Venezuela is the way it is?

BERNIE SANDERS: Ah, well, I mean, that, that’s a long story that we can’t – I don’t thing we have the time to get into.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I’ll break it down even more, do you consider yourself a capitalist?

JOHN HICKENLOOPER: Again, the labels. You know, I’m a small business person.

MSNBC HOST: So do you consider yourself a capitalist?

BILL de BLASIO: I consider myself a social democrat. It’s a different –

MSNBC HOST: So not a capitalist?

de BLASIO: I, look –

MSNBC: You don’t believe in capitalism?

de BLASIO: No, that’s not what I’m saying my friend.

BETO O’ROURKE: It is clearly an imperfect, unfair, unjust, and racist capitalist economy.

ON-SCREEN TEXT: Republicans will not let this country become a socialist country.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Socialism’s thirst for power leads to expansion, incursion, and oppression.

SENATOR RUBIO: The reason why I love free-enterprise is because it is the only economic model in the history of the world where you can make poor people richer, without making rich people poorer.

SENATOR McSALLY: We set up the environment, we remove those barriers, then you get to thrive. If you’ve got an idea, you can bring it to market, you can start your own business, hire more people.

SENATOR TOOMEY: I believe that capitalism isn’t good because it works. It works because it’s good.

TRUMP: America will never be a socialist country
