A new poll from The New York Times and Siena University leaves little doubt that Americans are against a Schumer shutdown.
It turns out the American people don’t think Senate Democrats’ demands for Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens is worth the cost of forcing military families to go without pay and veterans to go without critical services. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats like Jon Ossoff would rather kowtow to their radical base than step up to prevent a shutdown today.
The poll found 65% of Americans believe Democrats should not shut down the government. 47% of Democrats support a shutdown compared to 32% of independents and 5% of Republicans. Those results back up reporting from Axios last week that Schumer was using the shutdown to “[play] to his base” and his staff were “closely coordinating their government shutdown strategy with outside liberal groups.”
