Washington, D.C. – Last week, Senate Democrats unveiled new legislation that will replace S.1, the failed “Corrupt Politicians Act”.  However, this bill is nearly identical to S.1 in most critical areas, especially when it comes to identification requirements to vote.

The new legislation includes a provision that will require state motor vehicle departments to automatically register voters. Additionally, the bill requires states to offer same-day voter registration, making it harder to verify a person’s identity.

Not only does this bill trample on the rights of states to control their own elections, but its rules against voter ID laws are wildly unpopular with the American people. In fact, requiring an ID to vote is so roundly popular in America that Democrats have been tripping over themselves to say they’ve always supported it, despite facts to the contrary.

Polling on “Corrupt Politicians Act” provisions by the NRSC illustrates the support for voter ID laws:

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. The newest version of the ‘Corrupt Politicians Act’ is every bit as dangerous as the original. Voter ID laws are common sense and widely popular. D.C. Democrats’ power grab is nothing more than an attempt to overrule the will of the people and undermine election security. Fortunately, this bill is dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate.”
