The NRSC released a new web ad today, “Pennsylvania Draft Season,” in advance of next week’s Democratic Senate primary between Katie McGinty, Joe Sestak, and John Fetterman. The ad mimics the format of the NFL draft, also scheduled for next week.
Much like sports commentators highlight attributes of top draft picks, the NRSC News commentators emphasize headline-grabbing flaws from all three candidates, including:
- Katie McGinty’s trips through the revolving door.
- Joe Sestak’s claim that “ISIS is running out of gas.”
- John Fetterman’s failure to file his financial disclosure on time.

HOST: Well folks, it’s draft season, and Pennsylvania democrats have no less than three recruits to choose from on April 26th. We head to our expert panel to break down ALL the primary candidates. We’re starting with you, Sami.
SAMI: Oh, it’s gotta be Katie McGinty. She was a lobbyist, so she has experience getting through that revolving door. She’s also been endorsed by all the Washington Democratic elites, including Obama.
DREW: Who the majority of Pennsylvanians disapprove of!
HOST: Drew, who do you have?
DREW: My money’s on Joe Sestak.
SAMI: The guy who said “ISIS is running out of gas!?”
DREW: Let me finish. He’s got the physical capabilities – the man walked 422 miles across Pennsylvania. Just watch him break this kid’s block. He’s unstoppable!
ALEX: Hold up, you want physical capabilities – John Fetterman is your guy. I mean have you seen him?
DREW: He didn’t even file his paperwork on time!
ALEX: Well Sestak’s 2010 upset? Yeah, he ended up losing to Pat Toomey in a head-to-head match-up. So why would Pennsylvania Dems choose him again?
